IV therapy has moved well beyond hospital settings. Today, it’s offered in wellness clinics, med spas, and physician-led practices as a tool for recovery, performance, and targeted nutrient delivery. At Peak Personalized Healthcare, IV therapy is part of a broader, physician-guided approach to optimizing how your body functions, not a quick fix, but a clinically appropriate tool used when and how it actually makes sense for you.

So what is IV therapy, how does it work, and when does it actually deliver meaningful results?

How Does IV Therapy Deliver Nutrients Differently Than Oral Supplements?

The core advantage of intravenous therapy comes down to one word: bioavailability.

When you take an oral supplement, it has to survive your digestive system before it can reach your bloodstream. Stomach acid, intestinal absorption rates, and individual gut health all affect how much of a nutrient actually reaches circulation, and for many people, that percentage is significantly lower than what’s printed on the label.

IV therapy bypasses the digestive tract entirely. Nutrients are delivered directly into the bloodstream, so the body receives a higher concentration of the active compounds more quickly than with oral delivery. This is particularly relevant for people who:

What Are the Most Common Uses for IV Therapy?

At Peak Personalized Healthcare, IV therapy is offered both à la carte and as part of membership plans. The treatments we provide fall into several well-supported categories:

Hydration and Electrolyte Restoration

Rapid rehydration with balanced electrolytes is one of the most clinically established uses of IV therapy. Whether from illness, intense athletic performance, or heat exposure, IV fluid replacement restores balance faster than oral hydration alone.

Vitamin and Mineral Infusions

Custom blends of vitamins B and C, magnesium, zinc, and other micronutrients can be formulated based on your lab results. Rather than guessing what you need, we use biomarker data to target specific deficiencies.

NAD+ Infusions

NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme involved in cellular energy production, DNA repair, and mitochondrial function. NAD levels decline naturally with age. IV delivery of NAD+ has shown promise in supporting energy metabolism and recovery, though research in this area is still developing, and we present it to patients transparently as an emerging therapy.

Peptide Infusions (NAD, NR)

Alongside NAD, we offer NR (nicotinamide riboside) and other peptide-based infusions that support cellular repair pathways, particularly relevant for patients focused on longevity and recovery optimization.

Iron Infusions

For patients with confirmed iron-deficiency anemia who cannot tolerate or do not adequately respond to oral iron supplementation, IV iron infusions offer a clinically proven and effective alternative.

Ketamine Infusions

Ketamine delivered intravenously is used in our practice for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and chronic pain under direct physician supervision. This is one of the most evidence-supported uses of IV therapy in a clinical setting.

Add-On Injections

Vitamin and amino acid injections, including B12, glutathione, and others, can be added to infusion sessions based on individual needs and lab findings.

How Often Should You Get IV Therapy for Optimal Results?

This depends entirely on why you’re receiving IV therapy and on your lab data. There is no universal schedule that applies to everyone, and at Peak Personalized Healthcare, we don’t recommend treatments based on a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Here’s how frequency is typically determined:

For performance and recovery: Athletes or high-output individuals may benefit from periodic infusions around intense training blocks, competition schedules, or recovery periods. Frequency varies based on physical demand and baseline nutrient status.

For documented deficiencies: If lab testing reveals a specific deficiency, iron, B12, or magnesium, a structured course of infusions may be recommended until levels normalize, followed by reassessment.

For NAD+ and longevity support: Many patients begin with an initial series of infusions and transition to monthly or quarterly maintenance sessions based on their response and ongoing health goals.

For ketamine therapy: Depression and PTSD protocols typically involve six weekly sessions followed by monthly maintenance. Chronic pain protocols follow a similar structure. These are physician-directed schedules based on clinical response.

General wellness drips: For patients without specific deficiencies who are simply looking for a performance or recovery boost, occasional use alongside a strong nutritional foundation is reasonable. We don’t recommend high-frequency elective infusions for patients with normal nutrient levels without a clinical rationale.

The most important principle: IV therapy should follow your data, not a marketing schedule. Lab testing before and after treatment allows us to measure actual results and adjust accordingly.
